One of my favorite parts of Christmas is going to church and singing all the holiday hymns. A couple of my personal favorites are “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “We Three Kings of Orient Are”, “What Child is This”, and “The First Noel”. However, my all-time winner is “Mary, Did You Know”.
In case you haven’t heard this song, each line starts with “Mary did you know that your Baby Boy” and gives one of the great things Jesus did while here, like walk on water and give sight to a blind man. But if you really think about asking Mary these things, she would probably not have had the slightest clue as to the potential that lay within that little baby.
Although I am not a mother, it is amazing to think of the potential for any child when they are born. They could be an astronaut, teacher, preacher, or find the solution for world peace. This time of year is about the birth of Jesus, God’s gift to us. And although we celebrate the Virgin Mary, it is hard to imagine what she was thinking when all of this happened. Yes, the angel told her of her unborn son, “Mary, do not be afraid. You have found favor with God. 31 See! You are to become a mother and have a Son. You are to give Him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great. He will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the place where His early father David sat. 33 He will be King over the family of Jacob forever and His nation will have no end” (Luke 1:30-33), but those things to be done by a man are hard to see in the face of a baby.
This song is a great reminder of the promises of God and of the blessings given to one woman, a mother, who would help to save us all.

The sleeping Child you're holding is the great "I am".”
