Retreats Aren't Just for Youth Groups

By Paul

This week we have been talking about how retreats aren't just for kids.  It's easy to get wrapped up in just planning events for the youth.  But there may be other groups in your church that need a little spiritual lift as well. Tuesday we talked about activity ideas for women's retreats. Today, I would like to talk about ideas for men's retreats.

Men love to get away and spend time either fishing, eating, sitting and talking around a campfire, or just a go old story telling time. A good way to do this is to take them on a weekend retreat off-site.  Going off-site allows your group to get out of the four walls of church and experience the outdoors. The idea of getting away does wonders for groups and can be very positive in every area of life!

Recently I was talking with a Pastor about their very successful Men's Retreat. They provided an extended time of worship before their teaching times. The result was that God real touched the lives of men in a deep way. It's okay to get out of the box and try something new and creative.

During another Men's Retreat we heard that a group of men gather in the middle of the Lake. They used the paddle boats and canoes at the Retreat Center to meet together. They sang songs and had a teaching time on being "Fisher's of Men". Their Leader talked about how this simple idea made a huge impact on their men.

The next time you plan a Men's Retreat try some new or fresh. I think you will be surprised to see what happens at your next event.

What activities have you planned that made your men's retreat successful?
