Games of Gratitude

Thanksgiving is upon us once again.  That time where we take a step back to evaluate the many blessings God has placed in our lives.  But do you ever wonder what everyone else is thankful for?  While the intentions are good, this can be a time of selfishness when only evaluating our own lives.  Likewise, there are many things left out because we too often take things for granted.  So, we thought this Thanksgiving you and your family or church group may like to take the grateful listing up a notch and share with others.

Gratitude Wreath

One fun way to both decorate and give thanks together is through a gratitude wreath.  You can either buy decorative leaves or cut them out from construction paper.  Have everyone write down things they are thankful for on individual leaves.  Once finished, use a hot glue gun to glue the leaves onto a foam wreath base, making sure to cover up all the spots.  After it has dried, find a spot to hang it up so that everyone can see.

Grateful ABCs

This one may take some thought on the part of the players.  Print out a list of the alphabet.  Have each person try to come up with something they are thankful for that starts with each letter.  If you want to make it a little more of a challenge, set a timer and see who can come up with the most in a certain amount of time.

Gratitude Scavenger Hunt

We are constantly surround by things to be grateful for.  So, start hunting.  Make a list of categories and have players snap a picture, pick up, or write down the things they find that match.

Find something…

  • you enjoy learning about
  • colorful
  • beautiful
  • you can’t live without
  • you love
  • comforting
  • tasty
  • funny
  • old
  • new
  • that you use everyday
  • that holds a memory
  • that loves you
