Christ-Centered New Years Resolution

By The CRN Team
1/5/2024

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing something new; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. -Isaiah 43:18-19

As the excitement of Christmas wanes, we can shift our focus onto the new year and all that the next twelve months hold. As Christians who want to live a spiritual and moral life based on His word, the new year is a great reminder to step back and think deeply about our daily walk. In this article, we share a compilation of New Year's resolutions that are Christ-centered. Some of these are successful past resolutions, and some are our actual 2024 New Year resolutions! We hope they inspire you the way they have us.

  1. Deepen My Relationship with God: Resolve to spend more of your time in prayer and Bible study. Consider joining a Bible study group or finding a devotional plan to help you grow spiritually. Bottom line: develop a regular worship routine. If you've been irregular in your church attendance, this is an excellent time to recommit. If you aren't ready to establish membership in a church, plan for a consistent worship routine. Plan intentionally and stick to a time, place, and schedule.
  2. Serve Others: Reach out and volunteer! An excellent place to start is your church or community, but there are a ton of non-profits in the U.S. Research organizations that align with your personal values and jump in.
  3. Forgive and Seek Forgiveness: Commit to forgiving those who wronged you and seek forgiveness from those you may have hurt. Your goal may include reconciling failed relationships or repairing a current relationship. If you have a relationship that comes to mind, take the leap.
  4. Share Your Faith: Lean into your faith and share the Gospel. Commit to sharing your faith with others, whether it be through conversation, writing, or music. Strive to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit, which include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
  5. Live a Life of Gratitude: Cultivate a new attitude and make a point to acknowledge and appreciate the blessings and gifts God has given you. Avoid negative influences and limit exposure to media and content that makes you compare yourself to others.
  6. Practice Self-Control: Strive to live a life of self-control and discipline, avoiding temptations that may lead you away from your faith. This may look like spending less on materialism or eating less processed foods. Consider reducing your focus on material possessions and consumerism.
  7. Seek Wisdom and Discernment: Ask God for wisdom and discernment in decision-making and make choices that align with your Christian values. Read and reflect on Christian literature and commit to reading Christian books, theological works, or spiritual classics to deepen your understanding of your faith.

Keep your new years resolutions SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. Having an accountability partner or mentor to support you in your journey may be helpful. Tailor your resolutions to your circumstances and seek guidance from your pastor or spiritual leaders if needed.

Still thinking of a resolution? Don't sweat it. There are no rules to New Years resolutions. Luckily, Jesus died for our sins, and it is never too late to turn over a new leaf.
