Edible Ornaments

On Tuesday we shared some deliciously festive treat recipes. Today we are going to stick to the food theme, but take it a slightly different direction. Desserts and candy seem to be some of the most popular foods made during the holiday season. It’s a great excuse to eat unhealthy. However, there’s more to do with candy than just eat it. Why not make it into ornaments for the tree? Here’s how:

You will need:

  • Candies (peppermints, butterscotch, caramels, anything that will solidify)
  • Metal Cookie Cutters in your favorite Christmas shapes
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Parchment paper
  • Toothpick
  • Ribbon

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Line cookie sheet with parchment paper
  • Place cookie cutters on prepared cookie sheet about an inch apart
  • Spray inside of cookie cutters with cooking spray
  • Evenly place candies inside of cookie cutters (use one type of candy per cookie cutter)
  • Bake 6-10 minutes or until candies are melted together.
  • Remove from oven and cool for a minute. Poke a hole in the candy with the toothpick where you will string them for the tree.
  • Let cool an additional 5-7 minutes until hard.
  • Pop out of the cookie cutter. Thread ribbon through the hole and start decorating.

The best part is, if any of them get messed up, you can just eat it. After all, it’s just candy.
