Independence Day

By Courtney
7/4/2013

Today is Independence Day!  But it means so much more than just picnics and spending time with family and friends.  It is a day to remember what freedom is all about and that it doesn't come without a price.  A good scripture for today comes from Romans 5:18:

"Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone."

Today is not only a day to reflect on our freedom here on earth, but also to remember that Christ's sacrifice set us free from our sins and gives us eternal life in heaven.  Through Him, we can have new life!

Today at Christian Retreats Network, we wanted to take a moment and reflect on what the 4th of July means to each of us.  We hope that this inspires you to take a moment out of your day to reflect on what it means to you!  Have a safe and happy holiday!

Karen Moran - "Galatians 5:1 - "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (NIV)

I thank God everyday that I was born into a country where I am free to worship Him and speak openly about My Savior's sacrifice for my salvation, because of the sacrifice of those who came before me and their dedication to the freedom of our country."

Paul Weber - "Freedom Has A Price. Thank God for "Freedom in this Country"! Every time I see a Cross, I am thankful for the price of freedom Jesus paid. Every time I see a Flag,  I am so thankful for the price that has been paid for this Country. May we stop this "Fourth of July" and thank God for this Country's Freedom within our Churches and Nation.

During this time of year I am reminded of the scripture.
"So if the Son has sets you free, you are free indeed. John 8:36.

Have a happy and thankful Fourth of July."

Courtney Lorenz – "Independence Day is not only a day that I get to spend with family and friends, but it is a day where I reflect on what being an American really means.  I want to say a special thanks to all of the service men and women who have served past, present, and future.  They risk everything they have so we can have the one thing people in other countries don't have: freedom! Because of them I can practice my faith without fear of persecution. And I am so thankful for that!"

Sarah Schlotman - "July 4th is a wonderful time for celebration. It's our country's birthday and it was my great grandmother's birthday. We had a double celebration every year.  Granny passed away at the young age of 94 last November. We know she will be in our hearts as we celebrate the 4th of July. Fireworks and sparklers are a tradition for most people living in America. How cool is it to have fireworks on your birthday every year?

I have 3 cousins and several friends in the active military and I pray for their safety every time they're deployed. They often go without running water or a hot meal while out on the field. It is their everyday routine. Without their hard work, we would not be able to enjoy fireworks and BBQs with our families.

Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord will lead you into the land. He will always be with you and help you, so don't ever be afraid of your enemies." (Contemporary English Version). Our country is not free without the help and scarifies of many families. I hope you all enjoy your family while you celebrate our countries 237th birthday. I know I'll be enjoying my family and eating way too much food."
