Take Me to Church or to an Off-site Ministry Event

For those who never grew up with something on their Sunday morning schedule, attending church for the first time, or even coming back to it, can be a very scary thing. No matter the age, showing up for that first service is a big step.  I’m sure there are plenty of people in your life that you would love to take to a service with you.  So, how do you convince them to attend?

Keep in mind that many people are afraid to step out of their comfort zones. They may want to know more about God but are too intimidated to ask. Every so often, all it takes is to simply ask them to attend. Although, those who don’t know the truth may think that they are not welcome because of sinful choices in their lives. So, to help them feel more comfortable in taking that first step, let’s start a little smaller.

Knowing that the church itself can be intimidating, think about providing the same purpose in another area.  I’m talking about off-site ministry.  So many churches host events that encourage bringing friends.  Take this event to a neutral location where guests can comfortably learn about God and the church.

A Christian retreat center provides fun and relaxation in a more comfortable environment. In addition to worship facilities, there are also recreation facilities that your group is sure to love. This is another great way for your guests and church members to break the ice and bond.  I mean, how many churches have zip lines or a rock climbing wall? Even if physical actives are not your thing, there are other activities that you could choose from, like an escape room or a bonfire.

A casual environment allows guests to feel more comfortable with members of the congregation and to learn about God. A retreat could be the first step towards building your guest’s confidence in not only attending church, but also feeling welcome. Just one invite or event can change someone’s life forever. Are you ready to further the kingdom of God?

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
