It’s About How You Feel

Is it calm and relaxing?

Is it high intensity and loud?

Is it fun and energetic?

Is it full of Christ?

This may not seem important, but it can truly affect the outcome of your retreat.  Kids camps, for example, are normally full of energy with tons of loud noises.  From dinner to worship services there will be constant movement and never a bit of quiet. Trust me, you know when a kids camp is here.  Some adult retreats, on the other hand, are so quiet you may think the property is empty.

It all comes down to the purpose of your event.  How do you want your guests to feel and participate?  This is also affected by the demographic you have in attendance.  A ladies retreat may not like the overly loud worship services and high energy activities.  They will want breaks, quiet time, and group discussions.

The tone you set can affect what guests get out of it.  If it meets them where they need to be engaged, then they will get the most benefit.  But if they are bored or overstimulated, that will detract from their experience.  This knowledge comes with experience, but knowing your demographic is a good way to figure your schedule, too.

Don’t look at your event as a block of activities and worship.  It is truly an experience.  Make it the best one possible by giving your guests the retreat environment in which they flourish.
